In 2023, Maison Rabanne continued this legacy with the creation of the Rabanne Arts Factory powered by Dazed, an ambitious global program dedicated to amplifying the next generation of under-represented digital image-makers through the unique lens of their art. Participants were invited to submit their work responding to the brief: “Visualize new realities.”

To elevate these emerging talents further, Rabanne announced an unprecedented partnership with Art Basel, the world’s most renowned contemporary art fair, offering these young creators an internationally recognized stage. As part of this collaboration, Rabanne Artistic Director Julien Dossena and Dazed Media Co-Founder Jefferson Hack joined a panel discussion at Art Basel: Basel in June 2024, titled “The Rabanne Arts Factory: Opening Spaces for New Imagery”.

From this initiative, six finalists were selected: Buse Simon, Alice Bucknell, Elizabeth O'Brien, Lorenzo Risani, Lucy Ellis, and Lola Moniz. Representing world-renowned art schools (Central Saint Martins in London, École Duperré in Paris, and Istituto Marangoni in Florence) as well as the Dazed Club and Community, these artists merge traditional and digital art practices, deploying technology as a powerful storytelling medium.

After a roundtable discussion among the program’s judges—Julien Dossena, Jefferson Hack, curator and writer Venus Lau, and curator Claude Adjil—Lucy Ellis was named the inaugural winner of the Rabanne Arts Factory.

Lucy, an experimental animator studying for a BA in Fine Art with Creative Computing, uses her work to explore the physical proximity between humans and devices. Using scrap and found materials, she crafts narratives that explore image compression, digital errors, obsolete technologies, and the tension between technophilia and technophobia. Her work questions our connection to the moving image in a digital age, touching upon the ephemeral nature of existence while creating immersive experiences that resonated deeply with the Arts Factory judges.

As the Rabanne Arts Factory winner, Lucy will present her work at Art Basel Miami Beach from December 6th to 8th. Her creations will be displayed in a 40-square-meter space in the Grand Ballroom Public Lounge, where visitors can watch her live-edit animated works in real time, offering a rare glimpse into her creative process.

In addition to the global exposure at Art Basel Miami Beach, Lucy will receive a financial reward to further support her artistic journey.

For Puig and Rabanne, initiatives like this demonstrate how brands can drive cultural evolution by empowering emerging artists and creators with platforms to showcase their talent and vision. By opening doors to creativity and inspiring bold new visual narratives, we continue to honor Puig’s enduring legacy as a true home for creativity.
